This is a prime example of the carpets of wildflowers that can be found throughout California each spring. This particular bloom was found not far from Neverland ranch where Michael Jackson used to live. I can see why he chose that location.
This scene was not nearly as interesting standing up. But close to the ground it comes to life showing the rich foliage and texture below. I love how the color in the sky matches the color of the purple owl clover blooms.

Wild calla lilies require a lot of constant water and cool tempuratures. It is difficult to find them in a perfect bloom, especially in the wild. I got poison oak all over my body hiking down through the thicket to find these. It was worth it, though.

Along the California coast in late winter you can find patches of wild calla lilies growing in narrow ravines up and down the coast. This particular ravine has a stream running through it and the lilies are amazing there.

I was crouched down composing this photo of Balsamroot wildflowers with the Tetons in the background. I didn't notice the 2000 lb bison coming straight towards me. When I finally finished my shot I stood up and froze as it was about 20 feet away.

Carpet of poppies on a remote California hillside on a cold, rainy, overcast day. There is a reason the poppy is the official state flower. They bloom in the millions across the state every spring. And each year the blooms show up in different areas.

This is the most diverse patch of wildflowers that I have ever come across. The colors reminded me of the movie "What Dreams May Come". I have never seen a more vivid assortment of color outdoors.

Spring time in California is amazing. This photo was captured in the desert hills above Lancaster during one of the worst drought years on record. The display was still gorgeous.

Late July wildflowers at sunset over Carson Pass in the El Dorado National Forest, California. Most of my best wildflower photos are taken in California given that our wildflower season starts in February and lasts through September.
